Could we be hopeful?
Is it really happening?
#5 is 2 weeks into potty training!
All 5 kids have been cloth diapered for most of their lives (sans vacations and sometimes overnights). According to my calculations, I’ve changed, rinsed, washed, dried, and applied somewhere between 25,000-35,000 cloth diapers in that span! Holy schmoly! That’s a lot of poop. And pee. No wonder poop doesn’t scare me. In fact, I’m scarily immune to the gagging effects of poop.
I don’t really want to get my hopes up. I’ve done that twice before. When #3 was potty trained, we had been using the same set of diapers for years. They were Kushies (amazing BTW), and I had even lent them to friends. They had gone through 4 yrs of abuse and were just about done for. Cracked covers, velcro that was done sticking. I was so excited to think I could throw them away without feeling guilty! They had been put to good use, and fought the good fight. I didn’t have to worry about selling them, or throwing out something that may still have value. And, we were done having kids! Yay! Perfect timing!
#4 made his surprise presence known less than 4 months later! The good news was cloth diapers are so STINKIN’ cute (pun intended) I got to buy a whole new set. 🙂
Then, of course, I happily accepted getting to be a co-parent to #5 (even though I never saw THIS coming!), one yr old when they moved in with us. He’s a pretty smart little guy, and loves to do what all the big people around him are doing (“Yay, I did it!”), so he’s gladly taken to potty training (more on this later!).
I’m pretty sure there are no more babies on the way, ever, so fingers crossed, we may be done with diapers in the near future. I love, love, love babies, but I think I’ve put in my time and look forward to the other stages of kiddo-hood. Happy day!!!!!
